Mac & macOS
macOS updates and startup problems, apps that crash or will not open, storage and performance on a Mac.
- macOS "Failed to personalize the software update": how to fix itThe message "Failed to personalize the software update. Please try again later." is a generic failure near the end of an update and doesn't say why. Start with a restart and a clean network connection, then try reinstalling macOS from Recovery. If that fails, reviving the firmware from a second Mac is the fix with the best evidence behind it, and it doesn't erase the Mac.
- "No space left on device" on Mac: how to fix it"No space left on device" (errno 28, ENOSPC) means a program tried to write to your Mac's startup disk and found no usable free space. Start by checking what is using storage, emptying the Trash and removing large files. If the disk still looks full, local Time Machine snapshots are the next thing to check.
- Mac can't connect to a Windows server: "There was a problem connecting to the server"When a Mac can't open a Windows file share, the cause is often a sign-in or protocol mismatch, not a dead network. Check the basics, connect with an smb:// address using the server's name instead of its IP, and ask the administrator to confirm the share isn't SMB1-only.
