Version 22H2 is the last feature update of Windows 10, and it is what Microsoft's download page installs. The page offers the Update Assistant ("Update now") to bring the current PC to 22H2, and the Media Creation Tool ("Download Now") to upgrade this PC or to create a USB stick or ISO file for another one.
Since October 14, 2025 Windows 10 no longer gets free security updates. Microsoft recommends moving to Windows 11 where the hardware allows it. Reinstalling Windows 10 still makes sense when you need it for older hardware or software, but keep in mind that the PC will stay without security fixes unless it is enrolled in Extended Security Updates.
System requirements
- A licence for Windows 10 (a digital licence from an earlier install counts)
- Administrator rights on the PC running the tool
- A blank USB flash drive with at least 8 GB, or a blank DVD (dual layer if the image is too large)
- An internet connection and enough free space for the download
How to install
- Back up your files. Upgrading the current PC keeps them; installing from USB onto a formatted drive does not.
- Open the official Windows 10 download page and select Download Now under Create Windows 10 installation media.
- Run
MediaCreationTool22H2.exeas an administrator and accept the licence terms. - Choose Upgrade this PC now, or Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC, then follow the prompts.
- To install from the USB stick, boot the target PC from it and choose Custom for a clean install or keep files when upgrading from within Windows.
Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025: there are no more free security updates. Use it offline or plan an upgrade to Windows 11.
