DirectX End-User Runtime (legacy DirectX 9–11 libraries)
Installs the legacy DirectX SDK libraries some older games still need, such as d3dx9_43.dll, XInput and XAudio. It does not update DirectX 12 itself.

DirectX 12 is part of Windows and is updated only through Windows Update. Many games released before about 2015 also need extra libraries from the old DirectX SDK (D3DX9, D3DX10, D3DX11, the HLSL compiler, XInput 1.3, XAudio 2.7 and Managed DirectX 1.1). Windows does not ship them, so a missing d3dx9_43.dll or xinput1_3.dll error usually means this runtime is not installed.
The web installer dxwebsetup.exe only adds the missing libraries. Microsoft states that it does not modify the DirectX runtime installed in Windows.
System requirements
- Windows 7 or later (works on Windows 10 and 11)
- Administrator rights
- Internet connection (the web installer downloads the files)
How to install
- Download
dxwebsetup.exefrom the Microsoft Download Center. - Run it, accept the licence agreement and select Next.
- Wait for the installer to finish, then start the game again.
If a game still reports a DirectX error after this, update the graphics driver from the GPU maker; DirectX 12 problems are fixed by Windows Update and drivers, not by this package.
