Programs built with Microsoft Visual C++ need its runtime libraries installed on the PC. Apps built with Visual Studio 2017, 2019, 2022 and 2026 share one package, the Visual C++ v14 Redistributable, and Microsoft keeps permanent links to its latest version.
The package must match the program, not just Windows: a 32-bit program needs the x86 package even on 64-bit Windows. Installing both x64 and x86 on 64-bit Windows is normal and safe. Microsoft notes that the x64 package also contains the Arm64 binaries.
Never download individual DLL files from DLL websites. Reinstall the package instead.
System requirements
- Windows 10 or 11, or Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022 or 2025 (the current package)
- Administrator rights
How to install
- Download the x64 package, and on 64-bit Windows also the x86 package (many games are still 32-bit).
- Run each file and select Install. If the version is already installed, the installer offers Repair: choose it to fix damaged files.
- Restart the PC if the installer asks, then start the program again.
Visual C++ 2015 (14.0) and older redistributables are no longer supported. Older programs that need 2013 or earlier packages still use those side by side; they are listed on the Microsoft Learn page.
