Roblox error code 262: how to fix "There was a problem sending data"
Third-party guides describe Roblox error 262 as a disconnect message: "There was a problem sending data, please reconnect." The client lost its connection to Roblox servers. Start with Reconnect, check Roblox's status page, then fix your network, firewall and VPN settings.

What it means
Error 262 appears when Roblox cuts you off from an experience, usually with the text "There was a problem sending data, please reconnect." It is a generic connection error, so the message does not say whether the fault is on your side or Roblox's.
I found no official Roblox page describing this code. The meaning, causes and fixes below come from third-party troubleshooting guides and standard network practice, not vendor documentation. Most of those guides cover Roblox Player on Windows, so that is what this article assumes. Work through the steps in order. The first ones take under a minute.
Symptoms and causes
You are likely dealing with this problem if:
- A dialog reading "There was a problem sending data, please reconnect" with a Reconnect button
- Being kicked out of an experience while playing or while joining
- Landing back on the Roblox app or website after the disconnect
The usual causes, most common first:
- Unstable internet
- Wi-Fi drops, a weak signal, or a large download or stream using up your bandwidth can break the connection to the game server.
- Roblox outage or maintenance
- If Roblox's servers are having problems, players get disconnected regardless of their own setup.
- Firewall or antivirus blocking Roblox
- Windows Defender Firewall or third-party security software may block Roblox's network traffic.
- VPN or changed IP address
- A VPN, or your IP address changing mid-session, can interrupt the session.
- Corrupt temporary files or an outdated install
- Damaged Roblox temp files or an old client can cause connection problems.
- Mods, modified clients or browser extensions
- Anything that alters or interferes with the Roblox client or its web launch can trigger disconnects.
How to fix it
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and move to deeper repairs; stop as soon as the problem is gone.
1.Click Reconnect
If the drop was brief, rejoining fixes it and you can move on.
- Click Reconnect in the error dialog.
- If it fails again, close the dialog and continue with the next fix.
2.Check Roblox's status page
If Roblox itself is down, nothing on your side will help and you only need to wait.
- Open status.roblox.com and look for any active incident.
- If there is one, wait until it is marked resolved, then try again.
3.Check and steady your network
A flaky connection is a likely reason for a disconnect like this.
- Confirm that other websites load normally on the same device.
- Restart your router and modem, then wait for them to reconnect.
- If you can, switch from Wi-Fi to an Ethernet cable.
- Pause downloads, updates and streaming on your network while you play.
- Turn off any VPN and try again.
4.Restart Roblox and the computer, then update
Clears stuck sessions and makes sure you are on the current client.
- Fully close Roblox, then restart your computer.
- Sign out of your Roblox account and sign back in.
- Update Roblox to the latest version.
- Optionally, launch Roblox a different way than usual (for example from the Roblox website instead of a shortcut, or the Microsoft Store version). Online Tech Tips lists this only as an alternative client to try, not as a confirmed fix.
5.Allow Roblox through the firewall
A firewall or antivirus that blocks Roblox can cut the connection.
Before you start: Do not turn your firewall or antivirus off permanently. Only add Roblox to the allowed list.
- Open Windows Security, then Firewall & network protection.
- Select Allow an app through firewall, then Change settings.
- Make sure Roblox is ticked for your network type. If it is missing, add the Roblox executable.
- If you use third-party antivirus, add Roblox to that program's allowlist or exceptions instead.
6.Delete Roblox's temporary files
Damaged temp files can break the connection. This step comes from a single guide, and the folder may not exist on every setup.
Before you start: Only delete the Roblox folder inside Temp, nothing else. If the folder is not there, skip this step.
- Close Roblox completely.
- Press WinR, type
%localappdata%and press Enter. - Open the Temp folder and delete the Roblox folder if it is there.
- Start Roblox again.
7.Remove mods and browser extensions
Modified clients and extensions that touch Roblox can cause disconnects.
- Uninstall any mods or modified Roblox clients.
- Disable Roblox-related browser extensions, or launch from a browser profile without extensions.
8.Reinstall Roblox
Replaces a broken or outdated install with a clean one.
- Uninstall Roblox from Windows and delete any leftover Roblox files.
- Download and install the current version from roblox.com.
- Sign in and try the experience again.
Check that it worked
- You can join an experience and stay connected through a normal play session without the 262 dialog.
- Other experiences also stay connected, which confirms the problem is not limited to one game.
If it still fails
- Note whether it happens in every experience or only one. Some players report 262 in a single game, which could point to that experience's server, but this is unconfirmed.
- Try a different network, such as a phone hotspot, to tell a home network problem from an account or device problem.
- Contact Roblox Support through the official Roblox support site. Include your username, device and operating system, the exact error message, and the steps that trigger it.
