Epic Games error IS-0002-DP-OS-F: how to fix the permissions failure
IS-0002-DP-OS-F means the Epic Games Launcher could not get the permissions it needs to write to the game's install location. Close the launcher fully, run it as administrator, and make sure your account can read and write to the install folder. If that folder is the problem, install to another one.

What it means
IS-0002-DP-OS-F appears when the Epic Games Launcher tries to install, update or repair a game and cannot write to, or set permissions on, the install location or its own files. Epic describes it as a permissions problem.
Epic lists this code in a single help article together with IS-DP-06, IS-0002-DP-07 and IS-0002-DP-OS-05, so the steps below apply to all four. The same wording can also show up when Unreal Engine is installed through the launcher.
Symptoms and causes
You are likely dealing with this problem if:
- An install or update in the Epic Games Launcher fails with a message that contains IS-0002-DP-OS-F (or one of the related codes).
- The same game fails again every time you retry.
- Installs to a particular folder or drive fail while others may work.
The usual causes, most common first:
- The launcher lacks permissions for your account
- The account running the launcher does not have enough rights to do what the installer asks.
- No read/write access to the install folder
- Locations such as Program Files, a secondary drive or a restricted path may not let your user create or change files.
- Running from a non-administrator account
- A standard account can block the launcher from changing protected locations.
- Low disk space or a damaged launcher install
- These appear only in community answers, so treat them as less likely.
How to fix it
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and move to deeper repairs; stop as soon as the problem is gone.
1.Run the launcher as administrator
An elevated launcher can write to places a normal one cannot.
- Fully exit the Epic Games Launcher, including its icon in the system tray (right-click the icon and choose exit).
- Right-click the Epic Games Launcher shortcut and choose Run as administrator.
- Confirm the Windows prompt, then retry the install or update. Make sure the Windows account you are using is an administrator account.
2.Check access to the install folder
If your account cannot read and write in the target folder, the launcher cannot create game files there.
Before you start: Change permissions only on the game install folder you chose, not on system folders such as Windows or the root of Program Files.
- Right-click the folder the game installs to, choose Properties, then open the Security tab.
- Select your username, click Edit, and allow Full control. Click Apply, then OK.
- Retry the install or update.
3.Install to a different folder or drive
A folder or drive where your account already has full access avoids the permission problem altogether.
- Start the install again and, in the install dialog, choose a different folder, or a different drive that you own.
- If it installs there, the original location was the restricted one.
4.Rule out disk space, account rights and a damaged launcher
Community answers suggest these when the steps above do not help. They are less proven.
Before you start: Reinstalling the launcher does not normally remove installed games, but note your game folder locations first.
- Open File Explorer and check that the target drive has enough free space for the game.
- Test with a new local administrator account in Windows. If the install works there, the problem is tied to your original account's permissions.
- If it still fails, uninstall the Epic Games Launcher from Settings > Apps > Installed apps, download it again from the Epic Games website, and install it.
Check that it worked
- The install or update completes without showing the code.
- The game appears in your Library and launches.
If it still fails
- Check which code you see exactly and compare it with the Epic help article listed below.
- If the failure involves the installer service rather than permissions, see EOS-ERR-1603 or II-E1003.
- Contact Epic Games Support through the official Epic help site, with the exact code and the folder you tried to install to.
