LG TV error code 106: how to fix the network connection problem
Error 106 on an LG TV means the TV cannot make or complete a network or internet connection. Restart the router and TV, then check the network status screen to see where the connection breaks. Re-joining Wi-Fi or setting DNS by hand fixes most cases.

What it means
LG's English support pages do not describe a numbered "106" error. The code comes up in LG's Russian-language magazine article and on third-party sites, and in every case it points to a general network failure. On the Russian-language LG page the message reads "Network not connected. Check the network connection status."
Sources disagree on whether the cause is a Wi-Fi connection problem or a DNS/internet problem, so this guide works from the cheapest checks to the more specific ones. The TV's own network status screen will tell you which part of the chain is failing.
Symptoms and causes
You are likely dealing with this problem if:
- The TV shows error 106 or a "Network not connected" message
- The TV cannot join Wi-Fi or a wired network, or joins but has no internet
- Apps and streaming fail, or the TV keeps spinning while trying to connect
- The network status screen shows an X between two of the icons TV, Gateway, DNS and Internet
The usual causes, most common first:
- Temporary glitch in the router, modem or TV
- A restart often clears it.
- Wrong or changed Wi-Fi password
- If the password on the router changed, or was typed wrongly on the TV, the TV cannot join.
- DNS problem
- The TV reaches the router but cannot resolve internet addresses.
- Weak or unstable Wi-Fi signal
- The TV is too far from the router or the signal drops out.
- Router or internet provider outage
- The break sits between Gateway, DNS and Internet on the status screen.
- Faulty or loose LAN cable or port
- On a wired connection the X appears between TV and Gateway.
- Model without built-in Wi-Fi
- Some LG models have no Wi-Fi module and need Ethernet or an LG USB Wi-Fi adapter.
- Router band or mode settings
- Unusual wireless mode or channel width settings can stop the TV connecting.
How to fix it
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and move to deeper repairs; stop as soon as the problem is gone.
1.Check whether other devices have internet
If a phone or PC on the same router is also offline, the fault is the router, modem or provider, not the TV.
- Connect a phone or computer to the same router and try to open a website.
- If they have no internet, unplug the modem, wait 10 seconds and plug it back in. Then do the same with the router.
- Wait until the lights settle, then retry the TV.
- If other devices are still offline, contact your internet provider.
2.Restart the TV
Clears a temporary fault in the TV's network software.
- Switch the TV off and unplug the power cable.
- Wait about 30 seconds, plug it back in and turn it on.
- Try connecting to the network again.
3.Read the network status screen
The icons show which link in the chain is broken, so you fix the right thing.
- Press Settings, then go to All Settings, then General, then Network, then Wired Connection or Wi-Fi Connection. Menu names differ between webOS versions.
- Look at the icons for TV, Gateway, DNS and Internet, and find where the X sits.
- X between TV and Gateway on a wired connection: reseat the Ethernet cable at both ends, or try another cable or router port.
- X between TV and Gateway on Wi-Fi: re-enter the network name and password (next fix).
- X between Gateway, DNS and Internet: power-cycle the modem and router as in the first fix, then contact your provider if it stays.
4.Forget and re-join the Wi-Fi network
Removes a wrong or outdated saved password.
- In the Wi-Fi list, select your network and remove or forget it if the TV offers that option, then select it again.
- Type the password carefully, checking capital letters and similar-looking characters.
- If the signal is weak, move the router closer to the TV and try again.
5.Set DNS manually
Helps when the TV connects to the router but cannot resolve internet addresses.
- On the LG Russia page the path is Settings, then Network, then Wi-Fi Connection, then Advanced Settings, then Edit.
- Untick Automatically.
- Enter
8.8.8.8as the DNS server, then press Connect.
6.Check that your model has Wi-Fi
Some LG models have no Wi-Fi module and can never join wireless networks without help.
- Look up your exact model on lg.com and check the Wi-Fi specification. According to LG Russia, a "-" means no Wi-Fi and "Ready" means an LG USB Wi-Fi adapter is required.
- If there is no built-in Wi-Fi, use an Ethernet cable or the correct LG USB adapter.
7.Adjust router wireless settings
LG Russia suggests that router mode and channel settings can stop the TV connecting.
Before you start: Note the current router settings before changing them, since other devices share them. Menu names vary by router, and the source mixes 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz advice, so change one setting at a time.
- Open your router's wireless settings.
- Use mixed b/g/n mode and set the channel width to Auto.
- If your TV supports 5 GHz, try channel 36, 40, 44 or 48.
- Retry the TV after each change.
8.Factory reset the TV (last resort)
Clears deeper software faults when nothing else worked.
Before you start: A factory reset erases your accounts, installed apps and settings. Note your login details first. You will need to reconnect Wi-Fi afterwards.
- Find the factory reset option in the TV's settings menu. This guide does not give a menu path for it, so check LG's support pages or the manual for your exact model.
- Confirm the reset, then set up the TV again and reconnect the network.
- If the error remains, contact LG service. LG Russia notes the Wi-Fi module may need replacing.
Check that it worked
- The network status screen shows a check mark on all four steps: TV, Gateway, DNS and Internet.
- An app such as a streaming service opens and loads content.
If it still fails
- Note which icons on the status screen show the X and whether other devices work on the same router.
- Contact your internet provider if the X is beyond the Gateway.
- Contact LG support or a service centre if the TV fails on both Wi-Fi and a known-good Ethernet cable, since the network hardware may be faulty.
Questions
Is error 106 only an LG code?
SlashGear says other brands use 106 too, but it does not confirm which ones. The steps here are based on LG's own guidance.
